Live recording of my new song - "Casual Camo"

Like my bones, my music was grown in the South. Writing songs is how I make sense of the world. "Coastal Country" is where I'm headed - sonically speaking - and I've got a record's worth of new material I'm itchin' to share with y'all in 2024.

As much as I am a creature of the sea, I can't deny the pull of the mountains. My lineage stretches back several generations in Appalachia with some Canadian mixed in on my mother's side (where my middle name, Muir, comes from). My music is a product of a deep love for the land that holds us, respects to the people we stole it from, and an effort to convey a little truth as I feel it. I write mostly outside, sitting or walking with magnificent places that demand to be immortalized in songs that sometimes feel more like prayers to me.

The process helps me reflect on my split personality, both as a musician and environmentalist, looking to help folks connect with our original responsibility to take care of ourselves, our kin, our community, and the lands and waters we all share.

I've been told I've got a bit of a Steve Earle sound if that compels you in any direction. I'm a big fan of Steve, his late son Justin, and a whole host of other country and folk singers I look to for wisdom (Charley Crocket, Tyler Childers, Laura Marling, Adrianne Lenker, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell, Gillian Welch, Colter Wall, Marty O' Reiley ... and on into infinity).

I never thought I would be on the front of the stage, let alone the only one on stage, but that's the way it's been going lately and I'm grateful for all of it. I'm a somewhat regular at Open Folk LA at the Hotel Cafe and play up and down the Golden State wherever, whenever, and whoever'll have me. I'd be damn pleased if you listen to my music wherever you like to stream and catch me at my next show (details always on the 'gram).
